Stakeholders Demand Suspension of Ward Chairmen Who Violated Party Constitution in Ondo: Adetimehin Urged to Take Action Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo West Local Government Area have called for the immediate suspension of ward chairmen who openly campaigned for and endorsed aspirants ahead of the official commencement of campaign activities, thereby violating the party’s constitution.
According to the stakeholders, the actions of these ward chairmen are in direct contravention of Article 21 of the APC Constitution, which addresses party discipline. The article explicitly states that party members and officials must not:
“Engage in conduct likely to cause disaffection among members of the Party.”
Additionally, Article 23, which outlines the Code of Conduct for Party Officials, emphasizes the importance of fairness and justice, especially during sensitive periods such as primaries. The stakeholders noted that the actions of the implicated chairmen either reflect a lack of understanding of the party constitution or a deliberate attempt to subvert it.
Rising from a meeting held earlier today, in which stakeholders and representatives from the affected wards including Akintunde John Youth leader ward 7, Olorunsola Peter Secertary ward 9,, Onipade Olasunkanmi Organizing Secertary ward 10, Ward 4 Pastor Adesoye Sola Asst Secertary,
Asst Secertary ward 3 Olusola Oreoluwa Bademosi unanimously resolved to call on the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Ade Adetimehin, to immediately relieve the concerned ward chairmen of their duties. This, they believe, will allow for proper investigation into the matter and reinforce the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
The stakeholders also commended Ward 11 in Ondo West for taking the bold step of suspending their ward chairman, Mr. Akinola Adewale Austin, who is also facing additional allegations of fraud.
Meanwhile, credible reports indicated that some of the affected chairmen have been moving around the state capital seeking political cover and lobbying party leaders for protection, having admitted to violating the party’s internal rules and, by extension, the Nigerian constitution.
The stakeholders emphasized that while the APC Constitution may not explicitly use the term “endorsement,” it is widely understood within the party structure that it is improper for any chairman to endorse an aspirant before primaries. The primary responsibility of a ward chairman is to remain neutral, ensure fairness, and manage a credible and transparent process.
They concluded by urging Hon. Ade Adetimehin to act swiftly and decisively to protect the integrity of the party and uphold its constitutional values.
